Why Lace Front Wigs Have Taken Over

If you’ve been paying attention to the latest hair crazes, particularly black hair crazes, then you’ll know what a lace front wig is. They’re everywhere right now, from the rich and famous to the everyday girl (and guy). They’ve actually been around for quite a while (Beyoncé has been rocking them for your years), but the general public have only just started buying and wearing them.
For those of you who don’t know what lace front wigs are, the name kind of says it all. A lace front wig is a wig in which the front is completely made out of lace. Now why would anyone want a wig made out of a delicate material like lace? Well it’s not the kind of lace that we wear. It’s more like a soft, mesh material in a nude color which matches the color of a human’s scalp. Wig and weave makers then add hair to the lace using a process called ventilation. The hairs are added, a few strands at a time, until the process is complete. The end result is a natural, scalp-like closure or wig. Some lace front wigs look so realistic that you would never guess that it wasn’t the wearer’s natural hair.

Lace can be incorporated into weaves and wigs in many ways. There are lace closures, lace frontals, synthetic and human hair lace front wigs, full lace wigs and the recently trending, 360 degree lace closure. Anyone can apply theses wigs, from the beginners to the experts. Research is your best friend if you’re a newbie and if you still have doubts, your hair dresser will be able to help you out.
The time-consuming procedure used to create the wigs is one of the reasons why some lace closures and frontals, lace front wigs and full lace wigs are so expensive. The ultimate deciding factor of the price depends on whether the hair is synthetic or human, natural or processed and its texture and length. The price of lace front wigs can start as low as $15 and go all the way up to over $1000; it truly depends on you and your specifications.

Now that most of the technical stuff is out of the way, you might be asking why people are going crazy for these wigs. Well one reason is because of how realistic they look. Remember that the lace on the unit mimics your scalp, so you won’t have to leave any hair out, allowing all your hair to be placed in a protective style under the wig, while being left with a very natural looking hairstyle. Another reason is because lace front wigs are so versatile; the wigs can be parted in numerous different places, allowing you to switch up your hair style every time you wear it. The most common ways lace front wigs can be styled are to wear it with a middle part, a side part, half-up half-down, two buns in the front, all back and the list goes on.

The cheapest lace front wigs can be found at your everyday beauty supply stores, while the more expensive ones tend to be sold online. As always, be sure to do lots of research before making any purchase, especially if you’re just joining the club. Watch videos, read blogs and reviews and just make sure you aren’t being tricked into buying something that isn’t the best quality.
